Bathroom Remodel: Day 3

Filed under: House, Mini Bath — maryparadox @ 5:21 pm

Some time on the third day was spent moving the back wall and ceiling, and reconjiggering the medicine-cabinet wall.

We had some debate over moving the back wall, and the  reason is a little funny. The toilet goes against this short wall in the back, and Ed was afraid that if a man was facing the toilet to pee he would hit his head. Or worse, he would stand further away and miss! We split the difference and moved the wall back 6″. So if you’re a man under 6′ you should be fine, but over 6′ and we’ll get you a little foot stool to kneel on while you pee!

They moved the ceiling up 6″ and it’s fabulous! It really makes the space feel larger, which is important when you’re measuring a room in inches instead of feet!

I originally wanted a really big medicine cabinet in the bathroom — one basically as wide as the bathroom — 30″. Unfortunately it looks like the venting for the pluming needs to go up that wall so I can either have a small 16″ medicine cabinet or a big 30″ mirror, but not both.

The bathroom door is a little smaller than standard, only 77" x 24".

Looking into the bathroom at the wall where the sink and mirror will go.

The new thing they accomplished was cutting the hole for the door. That was exciting because now we can walk into the bathroom and easily see how it was going to feel. I managed to buy the door for the bathroom off of craigslist for $35, which included handles, hinges, and hooks on the back of the door! The handles were even glass, like the rest of the house!

  1. Gotta love Craigslist for those deals! Congrats.
Have you ever used to search out parts by keyword?
